Introduction
FlashDash ("we", "our", or "the app") is an open-source flashcard application for Android built and maintained by Pham Quang Chien. Every study feature in FlashDash is free to use; users can choose to support the app by viewing ads or by upgrading to FlashDash Pro for a 100% ad-free experience.
Your Study Data Stays on Your Device
All flashcard content you create is stored exclusively on your device.
- No user accounts or sign-up required
- All decks, cards, grades, interval schedules, and study settings live in a local SQLite database inside the app's private storage
- Your flashcards are never uploaded to any external server
- Imported and exported files are accessed only when explicitly selected by you via the Android system file picker
Third-Party Services (Ads, Crash Reporting & Billing)
When your device is online, FlashDash may interact with the following third-party SDKs:
- Google AdMob & User Messaging Platform (UMP): Displays ads on the free tier after requesting regional consent where required. AdMob may process your device's Advertising ID (
AD_ID), coarse IP/location, and ad interaction diagnostics. When you upgrade to FlashDash Pro (or when your device is offline), all ad requests are disabled. - Firebase Analytics & Firebase Crashlytics: Collects anonymous usage events and crash stack traces (device model, OS version, and crash logs) so we can identify and fix bugs quickly.
- Google Play Billing & RevenueCat: Processes optional FlashDash Pro subscriptions and lifetime purchases and restores your ad-free entitlement across devices using anonymous purchase receipts.
- On-Device Text-to-Speech (TTS): Passes card text to the speech synthesis engine installed on your device when pronunciation features are used.
Android Permissions
FlashDash requests only the permissions needed for its study and playback features:

POST_NOTIFICATIONS | Shows the Autoplay playback notification with Pause/Resume controls on Android 13+. |
WAKE_LOCK | Keeps the CPU active during Autoplay so TTS pronunciation continues uninterrupted. |
VIBRATE | Provides haptic feedback during exercises and Walking Mode. |
INTERNET / ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | Loads ads for free-tier users, verifies Pro purchases, and sends anonymous crash reports when online. |
com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID | Used by Google Mobile Ads on the free tier in accordance with your consent preferences. |
com.android.vending.BILLING | Enables optional ad-free upgrades via Google Play Billing. |
Data Control, Backup & Opt-Out
- Export & Restore: Export your complete database as a ZIP archive or CSV/TSV files at any time.
- Remove Ads: Upgrade to FlashDash Pro in Settings to permanently disable all ad requests and placements.
- Advertising ID Controls: Reset or delete your Android Advertising ID at any time under Settings → Google → Ads on your device.
- Deletion: Uninstalling the app removes all local flashcard data from your device.
